The Interstate that connects Michigan's two largest cities and the state capital is not the most important one?
No it is not. There is traffic between the cities of course, but most of the East side of Michigan ignores the West side and the west side ignores the East side. The most significant overall Interstate in Michigan would be I-75 that links the North to the South. It links the Lower Peninsula with the Upper Peninsula, as well as serves as the major traffic artery for a majority of the State. It is significant because it tied the two peninsulas together, before the Mackinac Bridge was completed on what is now I-75, if you wanted to drive from one peninsula to the other without taking a ferry, it was a LONG drive either around Lake Michigan or Lake Huron. Plus it is the freeway that links Michigan to Ohio between Detroit/Toledo which still is a very important link. Not to mention it is the one we send most of our snowbirds down when they head to Florida for the winter .
The most heavily traveled would probably be I -94 across the bottom of the State. But it's significance to the state is less than the impact I-75 has/had.
Many people may disagree, but this is a forum, and everything is open to debate.
Do you mean 95 for VA?
