I started cutting my own hair during COVID out of necessity. These days, I vary between cutting my own hair or going to Supercuts. It really comes down to what is more convenient at the moment (especially since Supercuts is pretty far from me).

I've been cutting my hair for years now. With the average hair cut in these parts at a low end barbershop being ~$25-$30 and with me cutting my hair twice a month, I have definitely saved thousands of dollars cutting my own hair. And all I paid into things was $50 for some wahl clippers, which I've had to replace once.

I have done so since I lost my hearing back in late 2018. I take the longest guard and fade the sides. I'd prefer to go to the barber since it's easier and feels good. I've gotten cochlear implants but I feel awkward going since I can't hear without my processors. At least I've saved lots of money by doing it myself I guess.

In 1999, my husband and myself went to get our haircut. The stylist had the flu, and we both ended up getting it together, and we still had a child at home to care for.

From then on I cut my hair (using books I was learning from), but had always trimmed my hair once cut in a shop anyway, and started cutting my mom's hair when I was probably 14 or younger. My husband cut his hair and the boy's hair. No one would guess we cut our own hair.

YouTube revolutionized our techniques, as did Amazon with the variety of cutting tools and accessories. Always pay a little more, and get a little more. I like the Japanese steel blades, as they are SO superior in both clippers and scissors

Imagine the savings over all of those years!

There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube, like this one. You can give yourself any type of haircut a barber can give you. But keep in mind that if it's a complicated cut, it's probably going to take you a lot of time to get it right. Personally I like to just keep mine simple. I don't use any mirrors. I just go by feel. The back of my neck is probably not perfect. But I doubt many people would even notice.

That's pretty much what I do. If I ever went back to long hair, It would be hard to remember to comb my hair before i go out.

That reminds me of a good joke I read a long time ago. I think it was in Mad Magazine. Girl tells Kojak, "It must be nice not having to comb your hair". Kojak replies, "Yeah, but there is so much more face to wash.

I cut my own hair. But it's shoulder length just takes time. I cut my husbands hair with a electric Wahl clipper, my son's sometimes too. My son likes his a little longer so purchased the combs online for longer men's cuts.

I was using a Flowbee hair cutting system, look on YouTube for a demonstration. It uses a vacuum cleaner. Yeah it's weird. My sister uses a Flowbee for her shoulder length layered hair. She tapes together extra extensions she ordered. It really works well. My mom also uses a Flowbee.bshe cuts to about 3 inches on top and 2 on the sides. Again it's weird but it really works well.

Do learn about texturizng techniques. They also sell scissors just for texturizing
