I read something about algae somewhere, and it got me wondering what the deal is with it in the Cape Coral canals. If a person was looking to move there and live on a canal, what affect does this have on owning a boat in order to take canals out to the gulf? I'm talking just a small boat, 14-20ft, nothing big at all. Ideally I would want a boat lift or dry dock so the boat doesn't sit in the water while not in use. I could flush after each use if needed (older Sea Doo Speedster). Thank you.

You cant do that.
You need to have a house built on the lot.
And, they dont allow porta pottys either.

Flushing in this case is simply running clean water through the engine's cooling system in order to remove any debris since my boat has a total loss cooling system.

If you own a canal home you're fine.
Algae is not a problem in canals linked to the ocean because of the tides.....Landlocked fresh water canals sometimes have problems.
I flush my motor after every trip to salt water.

Thanks for the info. Are there any rules or regulations for boating in the canals? Any website you could direct me toward for more information?

Lots of rules and regs.
See FWC website and Lee County Property Appraiser for more info.
Also, make sure you get your certificate from the Cape Coral Power Squandron
And read CCSAPS bylaws.
