Hello.

I'm retiring next year. I have family in Miami and Ocala, so I'm looking to be somewhat centrally located between the two cities. I would really appreciate some advice from those who know the areas on good retirement locations. Here is some info on me:

Home price range no more than say 225,000. I would like some a decent sized lot. I hate associations, and places where everyone is up close and has small yards. looking for 3 bedroom 2 bath - 1600 square foot and up.

Looking for low low crime area where it is quiet, but has access (say an hour or so) to a decent sized city.
I would like to be around water. I could be tempted to be on the gulf, but mostly considering more inland lakes because of flood/hurricanes.

I'm so tired of traffic! So I don't want a big city, congested area.

I guess I'm looking for Andy Griffin and Mayberry with a lake view Does anything like this exist?

Thanx much!

Dave

Oh one other thing; does anyone know how to research what i'm likely to pay for car, home, and flood insurance in specific areas? I know this varies greatly, but here in Miami insurance and property taxes are killing me.

Can you narrow down the area, right now that is a pretty wide swath of distances you mentioned

Here's a Zillow search of the overall path for $225k or less, 3/2 with 1600+ and 0.25 acres that includes "waterfront" in the listing text to get you started: https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sal...jy_y537s_crid/

As far as insurance costs, you'd want to contact an agent once you've narrowed your search down a bit further. I'm guessing that your insurance costs will be less outside of a major metropolitan area.

If you hate traffic Lee County is not for you. If you don't mind being out the boondocks you might look at LaBelle, Muse or towns north of Lake Okeechobee.

I've been looking punta gorda /north port/ port charlotte area - they seem nice. tough to find a home in my range with no HOA and having .5 acre lot or larger. any other low crime areas around those cities where the homes might be cheaper?

I've also expanded to 250k for the home.

thanx

OP You can adjust the link Kitties provided to look at .5 to 1 acre

The listings drop but still under your price point

You should visit the area/home that looks best to see the entire area. You can check out how your potential neighbors maintain the property plus what is in the general area.

Pictures of homes put up by agents will help a bit but you really need to put your boots on the ground and check it out.
