A) It will never happen

B) It would benefit South FL more than North FL, due to tax revenues. The majority of the population is below Gainesville, and they are paying most of the taxes. The tax revenues are then re-distributed by the state evenly to all counties. So counties with low populations are receiving a disproportionately higher benefit from tax dollars than are counties with high populations. So North FL depends on the tax revenues from South FL from a financial aspect.

C) The split-states of FL would lose representation/seats in the U.S. Congress due to division.

D) The current conservative-minded state legislature/congress likes things exactly how they are, so there really isn't a reason to change to benefit them.

E) There really is no practical reason to split states, other than the Northern part is way more conservative and South FL is more liberal. But it just wouldn't benefit either group enough to actually divide.

Won't happen, and if it did, what benefit would it serve either sides?

Like I said, the only benefit for either side would be for South FL, because they would get to keep some of those tax dollars that currently go to North FL counties.

It would be a huge negative for North FL, because they'd become a small, poor state. They'd have very little representation in the U.S. House of Representatives. Remember, if you cut off everything south of Gainesville, you are cutting off about three-fourths of the population.

The other issue is where do you draw the line between North/South FL? Tampa is a very conservative city, so I would imagine they would be more likely to join North FL. Orlando is mixed but leans slightly conservative. Which side would Orlando go to? The real dividing line would probably be drawn across the top of Lake Okeechobee to the north of Palm Beach County. Because the tri-county area of South FL is way different than Central FL. Even so, Miami-Dade County is a red county politically. The only blue counties in FL year in and year out are Palm Beach and Broward counties.
