Hello,

Sorry if this is 'OT' or even semi-random, but, well...I need help!

we're hosting our own wedding this weekend (Sunday, March 11th), and we were preparing to order food for the party (about 20 people, nothing large at all) from Whole Foods. After looking at the menu for a bit, we realized that the pricing is indeed absurdly high, and we know for a fact that the food is only 'decent' and therefore does not at all justify the price.

Does anyone have any suggestions for ordering food for such a party (again, about 20 people) in the Fort Lauderdale area (we're downtown, in 33305)? We have the catering supplies already lined up and servers ready to go, all that we need now is food!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This may sound kind of nuts but you could always use Publix. If you do your own presentation you could do something really nice, as well as maybe make a few things yourself. 20 is not very many people, we host get togethers with that many people often and can put it together in a day. It is all in the presentation, just stick with what people universally like and don't try to get to exotic. My sister-in-law always used Whole foods and I know what you mean, it's nothing special.

If you watch the food channel, one of my favorite channels even though we have been vegetarians for like 30 years. Most of what they do has to do with the presentation. Food is for the most part easy to prepare, the rest is making it look good. I have told this story before but one of my friends who worked in a top restaurant on Las Olas, when I was in the kitchen I saw the vanilla ice cream coming from a Winn Dixie brand box. They just put it in a crystal goblet with some fresh strawberries and charge like ten bucks for it and I am sure the customer loved it.

Whenever I've been in a pinch, I've gone to either Las Vegas (Cuban food) or Latin Grill (also Cuban food). I don't know your preferences, but they make great dishes and for such a reasonable price. Also I've used a couple of Indian restaurants as well. What is your preference? If you like Italian, try Venetos in Plantation - they have good catering menus as well - they are on University and SR 84 just down from Whole Foods.

Please feel free to contact me directly as I've been in a similar pinch. And Whole Foods is not the answer (from personal experience).

Good luck!!!
