I currently live in Hollywood and have lived here for the past 10 years. Hollywood is an up & coming hot spot. There is Hard Rock with the night Clubs, Dining, Shopping, and gambling. Downtown Hollywood is very nice, Miami is just 20 minutes away. Orlando is 2.5 hours away same is Tampa. No place is really safe these day, but Hollywood is very nice. I like Davie Fla very much also which is just across the street.

NY_er: You don't have to limit yourself to Hard Rock in the job search, many tracks now have casinos. I'd suggest doing some Google homework. Keep in mind, current Miami-Dade unemployment rate is 7% and may jump to 10% by midyear (MSNBC).

On the positive side, there's a glut of rentals.

Location? Hollywood's Broadwalk (not a misspelling) is interesting, relatively good access to either Lauderdale or SoBe. If you're working out west, however, the commute is gonna be a pain.

A consideration for both you and Stephanie9, if you like the beach: when hurricane warnings go up, beach areas are under evac orders. Where you gonna hang? If the damage is serious, you could be out of your home for weeks.
