I have a job offer in south fort lauderdale area coming from Seattle. We are looking at roughly $3K budget, give or take a couple hundred, a month for an updated 3 beds 2 bath size rental.

We toured the Victoria Park area and weren't thrilled with what $3K a month gets you for rentals. We have a dog and would like a small yard space, but want to be close (10 min uber) from some fun areas with a walkable bar/restaurant scene.

Young 30's, married, no kids, safe fun area. Where should we live?

If a bit of a commute to work is not an issue, check out the Imperial Point area in northern Fort Lauderdale. Typical 3/2s there are in the 1,600-2,000-square-foot range, and most have backyards that are fine for all but the largest dogs. It's only about 10 minutes away from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, a walkable beachfront community with bars and restaurants.

That's a shame about Victoria Park because that would be my first choice. And the area Colee Hammock which is near Vic Park behind Roccos Tacos.

As you go North, you'll get closer to Wilton Manors which has nice homes and isn't far to the beach. It has a large gay population but it is a nice area with friendly people still close to the beach. Further South you can go to Hollywood, specifically North Lake & South Lake areas East of US-1. Close to bars/restaurants around Young Circle and close to the Hollywood Beach boardwalk.

I have clients that live in both areas and love it, just depends on your personal preference. I personally love Las Olas /Ft. Lauderdale Beach area more so than Hollywood, but both should offer you a house with a yard in your budget.

Homes in Victoria Park are a little harder to come by so maybe just keep watching the market as it gets closer to your move? Hire yourself a good rental agent that knows the area and might even know of houses coming on the market if you liked Victoria Park the most but didn't find anything on the market currently.

Once you go West of US-1/Dixie you should keep going West of 95 but then you get into a longer commute for areas like Sunrise/ Plantation/Coral Springs, etc.

Hope that helped!

Even in Imperial Point, there are only a couple of matching listings, and they look so-so.

Another *maybe* option could be Sailboat Bend. But slim pickins' there too.

Thanks everyone, we are about a month out and have some time in corporate housing, but it looks like we are in the right area.

We'll just keep looking and see what happens. I'm thinking we might downsize a bit and look at some two bedroom, two bathroom places and townhomes with decent sized yards.

In the mean time, what bars/restaurants should we check out right away?
