The most crime I've heard of on the beach are cars being broken into once in a while. Shopping? Well, I imagine the Diplomat has some pricey shops, and there are the usual kitschy shops on the beach. Just west of the Diplomat on Hallandale beach blvd has shopping such as Publix, Winn Dixie, Wal mart, and a few stores like Ross and Burlington coat factory. There is more upscale shopping in Aventura, which is pretty close, and has a nice mall if you like them.

The area is pretty safe.

Yes, you can walk to shopping on Hallandale beach blvd. You can also take a bus to Aventura. Hollywood has a trolley that goes from downtown to the beach, too. I'm not sure where it departs from, but you wouldn't have to walk too far up the beach to access it.

Is it a hurricane evacuation area? Absolutely. All of the beaches are. It depends on the strength of the hurricane, though. I think category 3 and higher is mandatory to evacuate, but it may be 2 and higher for the beach areas.

I thought it was necessary to evacuate for a cat 1 or higher east of the intracoastal. I dont know how official this site is, but it confirms what I thought:

Broward ADRC Hurricane Information Center - Evacuation

[quote=Wild Style;2786036]Hollywood is one of the older areas in Fort Lauderdale and its pretty darn run down. Only areas east of US1 that is not older/run down is some new area they just built up south of a state park. I can't think of the name of it. I was just down there a month ago, it is pretty pathetic. That "renovated" boardwalk is pretty bad too. It has a mall that looks like it should be in Dawn of the Dead, That made me burst out laughing!! I know which mall your talking about! Wondering when they are gonna do something with that!!!

Hollywood fashion center? It looked like it should have been in Dawn of the Dead when it was open.

There is really no such thing as "a nice neighborhood" in America, anymore. The problems happened when the Govt started raising our kids. These kids need a good ass whipping!!! These delinquent kids grow up to become criminals. There is a difference in discipline and child abuse. These kids need OLD FASHIONED discipline. A few slap downs along with other disciplinary actions are not gonna kill them!!

Right now, I live in a smalltown in north Alabama and we are having a gang problem. So not good for a small area, so not good. Rural America has Urban American problems, too. So, don't move here, not any better.

I hear this way to much from ignorant people who know nothing about Hollywood/Hallandale, fact IMHO Hollywood/Hallandale east of 95 is by far one of the nicest places to liv in south Fl

a:quality of life: bike ride along the bdoarwalk ( it's not south beach but IMHO that's good, I think south beach is nothing more then a overpriced torus/wannabee trap now-a-days) sun, swim, hike, Anne Kolb Nature Center - VisitHollywoodFL.org

b: close to not one but two airports, 5 min to Hollywood int 30 min to Miami int

c:nightlife
Gulfstream Park
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywo
Downtown Hollywoo
