So, I have just found this forum two days ago. If I wasn't a strong and optimistic person I would get turned off to Florida since so many of you people are warning against moving there. We will be there at the beginning of November.

Has anybody any thoughts on Deerfield Beach. It is 10 minutes south of Boca Raton (which nobody seems to mention, although it is supposed to be wonderful)

Some feedback please as far as crime, etc. Shrimp

Deerfield Beach is a nice area. It is norther end of Broward county and as you mentioned the immediate neighbouring town to Boca Raton. I don't have exact stats on the crime etc... but i have been there several times, have friends who live there and so far haven't heard any negatives about it.

The beach area is nice with some decent restaturants, bars etc..... The good thing is that is not very touristy so you will see more locals than tourists.

Please feel free to ask for more information about housing etc and I will try to help the best I can or feel free to PM me if you want.

Deerfield is my favorite beach of all the local ones. I like the pier, that mini boardwalk, it is generally clean, and one of the few beaches that has rocks out into the ocean. The surrounding area including Lighthouse Point are all nice, but be careful going west towards Dixie and where the high school are, it can get as rough as you can find in south Florida.

I work at a hotel in Deerfield Beach. Many of our guests are locals who stay on the weekends because our beach is one of the nicest in the area. We've added a lot of new restaurants and dressed up the pier area considerably over the last year. I agree with the last response regarding the Dixie Hwy area - it can be rough. Most other areas are very nice and much of the population seems to consist of retirees. Close enough to Boca shops without having to live amongst the "Boca" community.

After living in Deerfield Beach for 6 years can't say enough good things about it...It is centrally located to all the interstates, shopping, beaches and Boca Raton is only 2 miles away. That is the last city in Broward County then the neighboring town of Boca becomes Palm Beach County. We are now in Orlando area and do at times miss Deerfield....even though we have saved alot of $$$ in insurances and taxes moving to the northern part of Florida...

Default Thanks for Deerfield replies

Thanks to all re Deerfield. I do have some concerns about the taxes. I have owned the house since 1991. It will be my primary home this year. We pay $3,600 in taxes and homestead act will kick in next year. $1,200 for dwelling ins. and $500-600 for flood. Regardless we will live here.

Re this site. In order to get all your messages I needed to search by title, or whatever for all messages re Deerfield. I don't know how to get into your replies any other way. I am hoping I am doing something wrong and it is easier than I think. When I go into number of replies I receive I just get profiles. Is there any instructional material to figure out how to work this site? Shrimp
