My better half and I are leaving our kids at home (under heavy guard) and are taking a short but well deserved vacation in the FLL area. I know there are beaches galore, but can anyone recommend a (relatively) quiet stretch of public beach where a couple of middle agers can relax without all the usual beach tumult? Anywhere in Broward would work.

Thanks to all!

the north end of ft lauderdale beach is quiet, otherwise lauderdale by the sea is also kinda layed back. even ft lauderdale beach right smack at las olas is pretty peaceful during the week with access to restaurants, etc across the st.

Consider Pompano Beach from Copans rd exit off 95 south through Commercial blvd.

Fort lauderdale beach, toward the south end isn't quite as popular or busy as the main drag. The busiest beaches in fort lauderdale tend to be from Sunrise BLVD south through Las Olas Blvd.

Also, consider taking the 17th street bridge east and then instead of following the curve of the road (which is northerly) go right and head into the neighborhood areas and the beaches along there are super big, and uncrowded.

I've always liked Deerfield Beach. Very quiet during the week, nice pier to walk out on. A couple pretty good restaurants on the water. They are doing some major construction near the pier, but the beach area is pretty quiet away from the pier.

Is there parking if you don't live there or aren't staying at Lago Mar?

1. Dania Beach- at the very end of Dania Beach Blvd on A1A
2. Very southern tip of Fort Lauderdale Beach- take 17th Street bridge, go around curve, then park in the very first large parking lot you see on the right. Just make sure on weekends you get there early around 10AM or else parking fills up. The beach there is huge and sparsely populated. The crowds begin a few blocks north of there at Las Olas Blvd.
3. Lauderdale By The Seas- about 1 block north of Commercial Blvd on A1A. There is a public beach parking lot.
4. Pompano Beach- 1 block north of Atlantic Blvd there is a large parking lot. There is also a nice pier here.

As with all beaches, make sure on weekends you get there early. By 10:30 or 11AM on Saturdays and Sundays, parking becomes a nightmare. Weekdays are much easier to park. You can easily park anytime during weekdays.

+1 to this.
If you go to the north side of the pier it's almost always nearly empty. At most there are only a few people. There's no lifeguard in that area as well as no restrooms, but it's a short walk down to where there are some at the crowded part of the beach. There's also a little beach shack bar/restaurant and plenty of parking. That is, as long as it isn't the weekend between 11 and 6.
You can even watch the cruise ships departing Port Everglades in the evenings starting around 5.

As has been said before, pretty much any beach is fairly peaceful during the week in the summertime. Weekends, ehhh, not so much.

Thank you for all your excellent suggestions.

We would be going on a weekday so in an ideal situation there wouldn't be too many people on the beach. It's not that we are anti-social, but we both lead hectic lives and would love a few hours of solitude.
