I was originally looking at moving to Tampa but the IT scene isn't looking to happy from what many are say.

Someone mentioned Ft. La would be a much better area as far as landing an IT job goes.

So is this accurate? How are things looking for a techie down there?

There is a better chance since there are more companies around here. Plus there are more large cities on the East coast as well (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach).

But it isn't exactly a hiring fest here now.

Ft. Lauderdale is probably better than Tampa for non information security IT jobs but IT in general has been contracting in FL even before the downturn. If you have security clearance and IT skills Tampa is a good fit, otherwise I would say no. RIM is in Ft. Laud. but they aren't doing too well. Generally speaking though, the pay will be much lower than you are accustomed to if you came from other states unless you are a sr. developer or in a quasi-management role. I hear that JAX has rebounded somewhat and IT hiring is increasing there but in the main I wouldn't suggest FL for an IT career. It's pretty much a dead end.
