Has anyone here used "Hire a Helper" or any moving helpers such as those advertised through UHaul? How about "Two men and a truck", "Father and Son" etc. I am on a budget but need help to move.

Thanks

I have used the local Two Men and a Truck (their location is in Davie) three times, and have had good experiences each time. Their prices are pretty reasonable as well. I'd recommend them.

Right now, I am in the same process of moving myself. I would suggest you go to www.movingscam.com and select from the 'Superlist' of credible movers for South Florida. I recently got a quote from Suddath ( a top rated mover in their Superlist) and am in the process of getting a quote from Griffin Moving.
Tip:
a) Never EVER move on the basis of an internet quote (where a telephone operator will ask for a laundry list of items to be moved and then give you a quote). If you on the 2nd floor and above, then distance to/from elevator, proximity to loading area all factor into the quote - which cannot be gauged by a telephone operator. Insist on an in-home estimate - if your first choice doesn't do that, then find another mover.
b) Insist on a BNTE (Binding Not To Exceed) quote. This means that price will not exceed what has been quoted to you, come hell or high water. Any other quote is just a good estimate. Movers are more than capable of 'extorting' money once they have your goods (hence the website www.movingscam.com!) , so get a BNTE

No matter if you are using a professional mover or hiring a helper you want to make sure that the people/person is insured. A "helper" does not need to have a license but you do want to make sure that they have work comp insurance. I generally suggest that if you are on a budget you should be as prepared as possible on move day and expecr for the day to take longer than planned if you are not using a professonal moving company with a written estimated cost.
