I am moving Fort Lauderdale - either to a home off Sunrise Blvd or a home off SE 17th Street. How long will it take me to drive to downtown Miami for work at regular commuting times? Is Sunrise Blvd. that much further timewise than SE 17th Street? Does it help to leave early? I heard the express lanes have really improved things.

That is pretty far. I live in West Pines and it takes me about an hour to drive down to Brickell.

It will be easier for you from the east side of town than Jimbo from West Pines who has to go both east and south. You'll just hop on 95 and take the express lanes south. Shouldn't be terrible. The difference between Sunrise & 17th once you make it to 95 shouldn't be longer than 5 minutes.

I'd say it would be a minimum of an hour on a typical day, probably a bit more. The express lanes help somewhat, but there are days when the express lanes move more slowly than the regular lanes. They charge a toll in the express lanes now, too.

Very true but since I take US 27 to the 112 it heads SE. And the traffic is really not that bad; even on the 112. I hit traffic trying to get on I-95.

Which part of Sunrise Blvd? Sunrise Blvd goes for 20 miles. Do you mean Sunrise and US1? Or Sunrise and University? That can make a huge difference. The I-95 express lanes usually breeze by, but if there is an accident it completely blocks up the express lanes since there is no way out.

Without knowing exactly where you are going and coming from it is hard to say. I would guess over an hour. I hate that drive, it can vary from just terrible to horrible. Not unusal to sit in traffic for an hour not moving a mile when someone gets into a wreak as happens all the time. I hate the drive into Miami from Fort lauderdale.

Once you hit the interchanges you have people who have no idea where they are going, tourists and so on and it can be a very dicey drive taking your life into your hands just trying to get to work. My sister-in-law makes the drive everyday and has been involved in three accadents in just two years one involving a lenghtly hospital stay.

Expect two hours, and go have breakfast if you make it in an hour. 40 minutes isn't even out of the question on a good day, and an hour is average, but definitely plan for a two hour ride. As far as 17th street vs Sunrise Blvd, it is about the same, maybe 5-10 minutes less by 17th street, since you will probably be catching every red light on Sunrise to get to 95.

You must be out of your mind to do that. I'd take the express bus and snooze on it.

My buddy lived in NW Atlanta suburbs and his job was in the Northeast Atlanta at I-285 Malfunction Junction. That's about as bad of a commute as there is in this country.

He went in at 5:00 a.m. and left at 2:00 p.m.

Ask for different work hours.

We got tired of Atlanta debilitating commutes and moved where there are no rush hours in another state.
