I love sesame, and have seen toasted sesame oil recommended on cooking shows and recipes.
my local grocery only has plain sesame oil

Yesterday, I went to a huge Asian market. Each aisle has food from a different country. It's fascinating.

But I could only find "roasted" sesame oil, not toasted.
Are they the same or similar?
Or maybe I was in the wrong "country"/aisle?

Maybe the Asian brand isn't completely English fluent?

Toasted or roasted. Pretty much the same apparently.

Cool, thanks!

I thought I bought a bottle, but turns out not, so I'll get one next time.

I also wanted to try go chu jiang, but of course could only find spicy bean paste, which might be the same thing. Fortunately, I enjoy wandering that store...

Go chu jiang (one word that gets censored on CD) is Korean. The *authentic* stuff is nearly always in a red plastic tub. No, spicy bean paste isn't the same thing. I l8ve in a very ethnically diverse area and can often find go****ang in a regular grocery store, and I really would be surprised if it wasn't in the asian store you visited.

I often being a photo of what I want. Eliminates the language issues.

ETA there is something called "black sesame oil" that's intended for finishing a dish - not cooking. It wasn't cheap and I disliked the flavor. Eventually trashed it before it went rancid. I'll buy Kadoya brand forever.

Watch out for the calories in sesame oil. I love it too, but it has a ton of those.

The best tasting things always do. If God wanted us to have perfect bodies He would have made broccoli taste like chocolate.

No more calories than other oils. I keep several types in my kitchen and they're all listing around 120 calories per tablespoon. Olive, avocado, peanut, sesame. Sesame oil is used more for the flavor and added to sauces than for direct frying/cooking.
