I just noticed that in our area most chain restaurants seem to have Coke products while most of the local mom n pop restaurants seem to have Pepsi products, I prefer Pepsi products because Mountain Dew is my favorite soda.
The answer is simple. Contracts, demands, popularity. Coke and Pepsi are just trademark flavors of entire lines of soft drinks. So it is not just if one place sells Coke you won't find Pepsi, if one place sells Coke that means they also will probably sell Sprite, Mr. Pibb, Fanta, etc. And if they sell Pepsi then they almost certainly will also sell A&W Root Beer, Mountain Dew, and other Pepsi products.
Most people say that they favor Coke over Pepsi. That's why your fav. Mountain Dew will be mostly sold in places that have contract with Pepsi.
Depending on which chains since Pepsi owns some of these chains. Pepsi owns Taco Bell along with KFC, and Pizza Hut. Pepsi acquired them in order to prevent Coke from being served there. Coke at one point dominated the beverage industry until Pepsi started acquiring franchises and have them serve Pepsi. Pepsi is actually the larger company today by capital.

I do notice that more casual dining chain restaurants like Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Red Robin TGI Friday's, Denny's, Carrabba's, Texas Roadhouse seem to have Coke products.

The three restaurant chains are owned by Yum! Brands as Pepsico spun them off in 1997. When Pepsico purchaed those brands in the 1980s, Coca Cola GAINED market share as both competing chains as well as local independents did not want to support their competition.

Interesting info, vision33.
I wish customers could have a choice (not that I go to those places).
I haven't drank soda in years but always preferred Coke over Pepsi.
It would be interesting if they sold both. My guess is Coke would sell more then Pepsi.
