I cut mine in half, the short way, then with cut side down, I cut across several times, about an inch apart, then rotate it 90 degrees and again cut across several times so you get 1 inch x 1 inch "sticks" each with a bit of rind to hold onto as you eat bite after bite without dripping or smearing the juice on your face. Best way to cut a watermelon, in my opinion.

I've noticed this as well. It was my low-calorie staple.

Well,

I bought a quarter, had a 3rd yesterday as part of the meal.

Given what some have said about it being not the best to keep hydrated on, I'm trying bananas at work to keep my electrolytes stable.

I’m simple, I cut my watermelon into quarters and we eat one quarter. The remaining three quarters go in the frig, covered with plastic wrap. In four days, no more watermelon.

That is what we do as well and I always buy the little min. melons. It is plenty for us and not as likely to spoil.

Do you know why watermelons are not oblong anymore? Because the round ones are easier to ship.

This weekend I went to a southern flea market, where the old fashioned oblong watermelons were selling for $10. I wanted to taste it, but it was too big for us to use up.

Well, no water melon to work but finished off the other half this morning for breakfast, so it didn't spoil.

Thanks, all! You telling me how fast it would go bad prompted me to eat it up.

About cubes and not slices, I tend to lean away from prepped food, even if it is just lettuce in a bag. In both cases, I don't like spending the extra money for what I could do. Then, I suppose, there is the element of the lack of trust I am gaining for various "industries". Finally, with lettuce, I eat the entire thing, not just the "good" parts.

I am not a rind eater when it comes to melon but I suppose, conceptually, there may be parts of "pure" water melon that don't make it into the cubes that are still edible......is there?

Just a suggestion. If you live on your own and feel like it's too much Watermelon for you to consume before it goes bad, try seeing if the grocery stores around you sell personal watermelons. My girlfriend and I started buying those this summer and we love them! Not only because they have had great sales on them, but because we can eat them quicker without worrying about it spoiling, as well as saving fridge space.
