Although this is true SundownTowns were a reality and in some situations variations of this are alive today. The question though is on a much larger scale. There was never a question of Racial Profiling then, it was pretty much a given and it was not as much of an imported(unless you want to count slave trading) issue. This problem is so much more complex and serious due to the number of people involved, both innocent and guilty. This is a runaway freighttrain that needs the brakes put on it not just a hand off the throttle. I now sound like a politician, good idea but not a clue in the world how to cure it. Well, there are several suggestions and Arizona is exploring their option, what happens when the Government pushes people to the point of taking matters into their own hands, which no doubt will at some point in time happen. My suggestion is to take the politics out of it, put the problem into some sort of business context and make some logical decisions and cut your losses and move on. Of course this will never happen as in a business you have a chain of command and guidelines but politics is like water slipping through your fingers, everytime you think you have a little grasp it slips away to emerge some other place and as there is no final voice of authority no orders can be given let alone enforced.

Default Immigration laws

Hey, when you have lived out here in what appears to be a nice neighborhood only to find that your next door neighbors are really a house full of illegals being held up in the dozens right next to where your child plays then get back to me. The "why not stop everyone that looks French etc" argument makes no sense here! People from France can't hike by land into our state! Perhaps if the government doesn't like the law they should, I don't know, DO SOMETHING?? I used to vacation across the border and have seen what we have to "keep" illegals out...WHAT A JOKE! Broken fences, NO fences, hell my backyard wall keeps more people out! It's really easy for people who don't live here to pass judgment. I'm so tired of watching the federal government not do a damn thing while the people who live by the border have to watch people stream in through their backyard. I'm guessing families of crime victims committed by illegals (look into it, they are abundant), violent/non-violent, are plenty happy with this law. No one is getting stopped because they look Mexican! But if a traffic stop or 911 call is made and the people involved are clearly not from this country (again, until you have lived here you can't judge the cops for having instinct in this area...they are the one's who deal with this day in and day out) then they should be able to legally check into it. If they aren't here illegally then what is the problem? When I get pulled over I am forced to hand over ID and answer questions about what I am doing, where I am going and I don't take offense to it. If cops get an instinctive feeling that someone they pulled over have committed a crime (drugs etc...) they will use probable cause to look more deeply into it...there's that instinct again but people generally don't have a problem with other's rights being violated if it gets crime and drugs off the street. If you have nothing to hide then you hide nothing...PERIOD. If the government has a problem with how we want to protect our state then by all means, BUILD A FENCE OR A WALL that will actually protect us from people pouring into our state! If they aren't going to do anything then we will have to!

As mentioned before, there is already a forum here on illegal immigration....this thread is allowed to stay for now because the topic is as it pertains to florida........
