I don't like the doctor I currently have, but I have found that it is hard to find a good doctor in Florida. It took a six month wait to get an appointment with the one I have.Other people tell me this is very common, you call with a cold and by the time the doctor sees you it is long over. Many tell me they have never seen their doctor, only the nurse practitioner. Do others find the Florida health system lacking?

What kind of health insurance do you have? Where in Florida are you?
I have never had this issue. Just booked an appointment with my doctor for a check up a few days ago, and I'm being seen Monday.
If you need to be seen right away, there are plenty of clinics that take walk-ins.

She could be talking about a specialist. There are long waits to see them.

Gov't has destroyed our health care system everywhere, its not just Florida.

Florida has more older people in need of care, so that strains the already destroyed system.

Large population centers are worse yet.

Most hospital care is good, but Docs....most are no good...most of these massive Corp Physicians groups are awful.

If your medical problem is due to having been in a car accident in Florida, a orthopedic surgeon or other specialist will literally take you within the hour

There is no "long wait" when the specialist can charge hundreds of thousands of dollars to the auto insurance company!!!! (Wonder no more why your car insurance is going UP UP UP!)

Let's not bring politics or insurance rates into this discussion.

Post on P&OC if that is your focus.

Florida is seriously lacking in concierge medicine.

There are few practitioners, and most aren't really "concierge".

Maybe I moved to a lower income area than whence I came.

I have zero problems with doctors or my health care where I live Lakeland). Medical facilities here are pretty decent, and they are building new ones all the time. Sarasota/Bradenton however, was another story. I would have to book out MONTHS in advance to see my primary; and many doctors were not even accepting new patients.

I have no complaints here.

ETA: I agree with the poster who suggested for something like a cold or more minor issue, the urgent care places are great. You don't always need to see your specific doctor for something like this.

That is for sure!

I went looking for concierge medicine as I continue to have problems finding a primary care physician.

It is a struggle. I had a great primary care with my last insurance coverage/employer. But when I left that employer, I had to find new primary care. Found one about a year ago and am already looking to switch. I called in December and got an appointment with a new guy in May. Not the doctor I wanted, but at this point, I need to keep up my meds.
