I am an almost 7 year Florida resident and loving it. I just want to clear the air (and wood) about termites. Yes, termites are an issue, like in many other southern states and are not a problem if managed properly. First and foremost, continue the termite bond that the previous owner had. Hopefully, they have not let it lapse. Your home inspector should be able to spot termite damage, but some cannot be seen, like inside walls. When we purchased our 27 year old house there was some termite damage which was detected and repaired by the previous owner. We immediately hired a pest control company and had new termite bait stations installed, called Sentricon. They are green plastic bait stations buried in the ground around the house. We chose this method because the other option of injection poison in the soil around the house was a non starter. They would have had to drill holes in the concrete of our pool deck, front entrance and lanai. The Sentricons are buried in the ground around the perimeter. We had a bunch of work done and some were damaged and the company came out and replaced them for free as part of the annual service contract. Since the termite bond covers all damage and labor to repair it, we chose that system. When we were doing some remodeling, we discovered a large piece of house framing around a sliding door had been decimated by termites. It was not covered because it was "pre-existing" before our current company took over. If your termite bond had lapsed, like ours, this could be a problem. Fortunately it was only a single piece and was not an expensive repair. Welcome to Florida

Is tenting still required? I see some people still doing it, and other just spot-treating.
