Saharan dust had a critical purpose in the early stages of hurricane season. The dust helps dry out the atmosphere, and reduce tropical activity. So, it's actually good

Glad to be missing what I hear is a horribly hot and dry summer pattern in SW Florida so far.........

Tampa is experiencing its 7th driest year to date and the 2nd warmest average temperature.

True - It was an abnormally dry start in 2023, with Central Florida seeing its driest 1st quarter ever on record.
BUT Sahara dust has a great effect on hurricane development.
Sahara dust not only contain dry air, but there's typically a layer of high wind shear associated with it. Hurricanes hate both of those things.
The result is a strong area of high altitude winds commonly called the African Easterly Jet. If these winds were constant, we would also experience fewer hurricanes.

A wave of Saharan dust that began working its way through the atmosphere above the Florida Keys on Sunday is the weakest and smallest of three dust systems that scientists are monitoring in the Atlantic.

The weak plume that reached South Florida this weekend, after leaving the coast of Africa last week, is expected to move across Broward and Palm Beach counties through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
Two more blobs are on their way: A larger mass of Saharan dust is nearing the Caribbean and is predicted to reach South Florida on Wednesday or Thursday, according to Dunion. Another major dust storm is forming in the Sahara and is expected to leave the African coast in the middle of next week, he said. It would take several days to reach South Florida.

I am having the driest ever, Still not even 13" total for the year. No way to make up for it unless we get a stuck cane northwest of me in the gulf and it brings me 40" of rain. Now that i would love. Our summertime pattern changed for good in the 1980's to a west flow so anyone right on the gulf gets nothing unless we get upper level energy with rain coming off the gulf and it moves onshore. I gots .30" today.

I pray for canes every year and never get anything. My area has had nothing since 1921. I am telling you for a fact i keep rain and canes away no matter where i am. I could move to a rain forest and within 1 mile around me it would die from no rain.

So, it's not the climate change, not the Saharan dust, not El Niño - it's YOU!!
