While true and difficult to debate otherwise especially considering the median household income is around 68-70k, it isn't quite as luxurious a living as many may expect - Typically when one attains such an income it comes with significant student debt or some type of specialized skill set that was most likely financed by debt if one didn't receive a scholarship or come from well off families.

High inflation has squeezed all households (housing, food, gasoline, childcare especially) and high-income households are no exception especially since it is within this income bracket that one gets taxed heavily if they're not savvy about tax loopholes and ways to maneuver within the tax code system.

Yeah, I don't see much migration from California to Florida. Californians spread out throughout the West cause it is closer......Nevada, Arizona, Washington, Colorado, Montana, Idaho and Texas increasingly Austin as a more affordable tech hub.

If one thinks about it there's not much of a fit culturally or climate-wise between CA and FL. Northern Californians tend to gravitate towards the Pacific Northwest or Mountain West while Southern Californians like states such as Texas, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. Exclusively, of course not but for the most part.

While there's definitely difference between the South and the West, it's not as big as one can expect. I'm from Phoenix and I'd say Phoenix and Tampa area share some parallels... now SE FL on the other hand... that's another world.

Florida's dry season is a lot like California, but it's still more humid, rainy, and green than CA. Though Florida's wet season is just like a whole other beast. Personally I like Florida's dry season, it feels better on the skin.

It's pretty common to see AZ plates in FL and GA where I am for example, but that's because all UHaul vehicles are registered in Arizona.

I think a lot of Californians who try Florida will wind up leaving for various reasons. Just like we have "half-backs" from up East, we'll have "half-over's" from Cali who will wind up in Austin, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, or Colorado instead.

Most Cali cars I'm seeing are older. I think they're young bottom half'ers economically, who were pushed out of CA by high cost-of-living. Some may be ex-military.

I'd love to see a demo breakdown of them.

I was about to say the same! The commiefornia cars i see are like mid to late 2000s models and young people, not retired.

Most from california I see here are under 50. The humidity many don't like though. I guess they dont want cold weather so they give fl a try. More end up in south texas though. Tx has much more industry.

Speaking specifically of climate, no where in the US has the same temperate, Mediterranean climate that the Southern California beach towns have (ie San Diego, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, etc.). Obviously that's not everyone's cup of tea but it certainly is unique compared to the rest of the US.

a California family bought a $2M home near mine in 2020 and sold/left last year; moved back to NorCal.

They couldn't stand the heat, humidity, mosquitoes in Tampa. They had kids who were miserable also.

the funny thing is that the reason they moved to florida was "freedom"; republicans, they loved desantis, schools were open, most everything else in florida was open during most of covid. while california was closed. they talked about how great it was to flee the crime and homeless problems in NorCal!

Yet they hightailed it back

florida's climate is not for everyone, not even some california-hating desantis-loving right-wingers
