Is Lake City safe? Google has it ranked the highest for crime in FL.

Which area is the safest along/near I-75 in North Florida? Between the border and Gainesville.

If you look at the link from my answer to your question about Alachua and Gainesville, you’ll see that High Springs and Alachua are safer options than Lake City. Lake City sits atnthe intersection of I75 and I10 and provides two major highways for criminals to flee, and I believe that is a major reason for its high crime rate.

I know someone personally who lives in Lake City and its bad rap stems from the passing through drug trade. It has virtually zero impact on day-to-day life and isn't the threat that other random crimes such as the property-oriented, which Lake City is right around average on. Lake City's downtown, east and southeast side are all decent areas as they're centered well south and east of the I-75 or I-10 corridors.

The closer you are to any major interstate, state road, or major artery, the more crime there is...& noise, & light pollution.

I try to stay 2 miles away at minimum from interstates and 1 mile away from major state roads...65, 70, 72, 41, 310, 1, ect..

Also try to stay away from retail areas...more crime there too....2 miles is far enough unless its a major mall, then 3 miles to avoid traffic.

If you look at crime maps, you'll see what I'm taking about. You want to be in the center of a neighborhood (not perimeter lots), in the center of a residential area, near fire station (not so near you can hear it), & near Elementary or Middle schools, but not High Schools.

Make sure there are no water treatment, or waste transfer stations, or dumps w/in at least 2 miles...smell, & truck traffic.

When looking to buy a home, I buy a paper map, & start plotting all these things to find the larger all residential swaths I call "sweet spots", then I drive around those areas to see how they look. If they look nice, then I go to the internet.
