My sister and brother in law bought a mobile home in a park in Lake Placid, about 12 years or so ago. They were snowbirds. The park itself was very nice, with mature landscaping and lake access. They were not exactly social types, but even they found it mind numbingly boring there.

After you explore the few restaurants in the area (there was a good Greek one) and nearby attractions, there was nothing to do. They sold after a few years.

Take a moment to take in this spaghetti junction in all of its glory, along with how wide I-4 has become:

I stopped passing through Orlando when their big dig began.

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Winter Park is nice I've heard, but I've never been there.

I used to live in Baldwin Park, which is directly adjacent to WP. Beautiful area for sure. I loved it. But… getting in and out of there was a nightmare. I miss the neighborhood — I don’t miss the city/metro area.

Check out the Old Downtown on Park near the park and the Amtrak station. Been there with family a few times and it is a neat place to visit with lots of restaurants and unique shops.

Being inland, not as hectic as near either coast, and general costs. Still looking daily on Realtor.com, hoping to visit the area soon too.
