Hi guys, I am going to retire next year and want to move to South Florida. I plan to buy a small house near water (coast/canal/lake) because I love fishing. However, I have read some articles about flooding and sea level rise in SoFo. I just wonder how often will a flood happen regarding different areas in SoFo? Will those floods cause any damage to the building or inside house?

The flood insurance on your very expensive new abode will cost you dearly,

Flood insurance is cheap enough. Is it common for homes near the water to flood? No. It's extremely uncommon. It's certainly not normal for peoples houses to be destroyed during an afternoon thunderstorm. Sea level rise, that's a different topic and depends on how much weight you put on global warming models.

Personally, I wouldn't worry much about it, buy where you want to be, and enjoy your retirement.
