Gulfport has 12+ non-chain restaurants in a 3 block area, sitting on Boca Ciega Bay. Twice monthly evening Art Walks and a weekly daytime market. Plenty of festivals, too.

Well I don't know how much foot traffic some of these areas have but the ones I found that seem or could be walkable are:

East coast
Stuart
Lake Worth
North Miami
West Homestead (Krome ave)

West Coast

Punta Gorda's downtown
Venice
Lakeland
Plant City
Brooksville

Central:
Deland

And the whole Panhandle

I've never been to Arcadia but I would imagine that town too.

We are on the hunt for our next home and will arrive In Port Orange in September, we have a rental while we explore. Last 2 visits we visited Deland and even did an overnite there because we thought it had some promise. We ventured out to dinner and found a nice place on a Thursday evening. We ended up being the ONLY people in the restaurant. Thinking we picked a bad place, we walked around DT for a while and it was a ghost town. Housing look d reasonable, but as far as DT we could not get a heartbeat, even though the DT looked ok. We are leaning to Ormond Beach for now... We need to be on east coast, looking to settle between new Smyrna and St Aug. St Augustine did not click with us either.... 😳

That's terrible. I thought Deland had more foot traffic, maybe the problem is its demographics. The beach towns and large cities tend to have more affluent people with disposable income.

Ormond beach is a nice area.
