I work for a company that does surveys over the phone. We are a market research company and we are exempt from 'Do not call' registries. Basically, if you want companies like us to stop calling you, you need to tell the phone surveyor to "please take me off your call list". We then code the call as a "hard refusal" and your number is removed.
If you hang up on us, let the call go to voicemail, or just keep saying things like "no I'm not interested", "no im too busy", etc...you're going to get contacted over and over again. So you can either take the survey, or personally tell us to remove you, to get the calls stopped.
At least, that's how my company works. Just thought I'd provide some helpful insight as someone who works in the telecommunications industry.

That's good to know. Thank you for the information.

I'm in Delaware & for awhile I was getting a minimum of 15 telemarketers a day, most were the same one's calling over & over again, but here's what I found out. Your credit card company sells your name & number to these services. Periodically I would get letters from CC companies that appeared to be junk mail therefore I trashed them, & these CC companies I did not have a account with but were the financial institution associated with a dept store CC I had. So a month ago I decided to read one of them. In the letter they admitted to selling & passing me around like a good time ***** but said if I didn't want my info sold to call this 800# & give my CC number to be removed. Since that time the calls have been reduced by 80%. I was so sick of people from India trying to sell us Viagra & a bunch of other nonsense. So if you see any mail from *Chase Bank card services, or any other bank read it cause it just might be your ticket out.

*I never had a account with Chase so I thought it was junk mail.

Several have suggested that one simply not answer calls from 'unknown numbers, 800 numbers, blocked numbers, obvious robo-calls, etc.' But, when one does that, the call then gets recorded on voice mail, which must then be activated and erased! Therefore, I often simply hit the "talk" and "off" buttons, without speaking, but, I've still got to pick-up the phone. -- Is there an easier way to block/avoid these calls?
