Looks like there won't be any fall leaf peeping in the Inner Basin this year, or any year.

Pipeline Fire scorches 20,000 acres after winds spread blaze

Highway 89 has been closed north of the city as the fire continues to grow, and investigators have arrested a 57-year-old man who may have been involved.

Wonderful! Another human caused, wind driven fire. It's not only sad for the people whose homes are affected & have to be evacuated, but U.S. 89 is closed, and affecting commuters/travelers. I'm going up that way next week, so I'll have to do some major detouring if it's still closed. By the way, the guy who they arrested was homeless, and apparently started it by burning toilet paper. He denied seeing any of the "no campfire" signs. What a dumbass! They should make him work to assist with the firefighting efforts.

And this weekend, and all the weekends into the fall, morons who imagine the rules about fires in National Forests don't apply to them, will travel up here to "cool off" and will just HAVE to have a fire so their little ankle biters can make s'mores and "experience nature".

It does appear that the Inner Basin and Lockett Meadows have avoided the blaze, so that's a good thing.

https://www.azfamily.com/2022/07/14/...rve-jail-time/

The idiot who started the Pipeline Fire is barely getting a slap on the hand. No jail time, no fines. This really makes me sick. There were warning signs all over the place about no fires at the time, but he broke the law, and is sentenced to nothing more than a year of probation. What kind of message does this send ... that starting fires which burn thousands of acres, threaten homes & businesses, and put firefighters in danger carries no consequence?!
