So I am having a nostalgia moment right now. I few weeks ago I watched a favorite 90s movie: Hav Plenty. Then I decided to rewatch a fave 90s series: Silk Stalkings.
And what did I notice? How baggy all of the clothing was.
The 90's was the decade of mostly sloppy dressers (at least in the US), remember the 1995 movie "Clueless"? Aside from Cher, Dionne, and Christian, nearly everyone else looked like they just rolled out of bed, forgot to fix their hair, and put on the baggiest clothes they could find.
So which is worse? Too baggy or so tight so that you have to be as thin as Twiggy to not look out of shape?
People with love handles or inner tube shapes (and that includes me)...look silly wearing the too tight stretch tops that are very unforgiving. Trying to find a simple t-shirt top for a woman anymore limits one to those types of designs.
Too baggy - too tight, a happy medium would be best.
It was kind of a mix. The girls on Saved By The Bell wore tight clothing and boy do I remember bodysuits *cringe* ( apparently these are back in style). But for the most part I would agree. Oversized blazers with shoulder pads - at least in the early 90's. Yuck!

This is my recollection, too. I was in hs and college in the nineties, and we had fitted scoopneck bodysuits that looked like ballet leotards. Paired with belted "mom" jeans. This glimpse of the original 90210 shows a mix of the baggy (boyfriend blazers! Chunky loud patterned sweaters!) And fitted (the aforementioned bodysuits, spaghetti strap cami tanks with a built in shelf bra as featured in Delia's catalogue, etc.) http://flavorwire.com/334077/an-a-z-...90210-style/26
I'm still hoping we can go back to the 1940s for male fashion. Those actors in old movies could really wear a suit better than our current crop of actors. And they were baggy.
I remember wearing leggings and t-shirts with those terrible t-shirt clips. I also had plenty of way oversized button downs I wore with jeans.
And I also wore a leotard + sheer shirt + jeans as one of my favorite looks. I could never do those built in bra tops. I basically went straight from undershirts to DD+ cups.
I went through a phase where I wore a t-shirt with my dad's 70s suit vests and jeans or skirts. I had a favorite pleated plaid skirt too.
But I sure tried to wear baggy pants. Which was terrible.
I remember those bodysuit style tops. I wore them all the time - no coming untucked!
Overall, though, I was pretty underwhelmed by 90s fashion.
