I'm a licensed hairdresser and we won't even perm over sun in................BAD. It is pretty much the same as dumping a bottle of peroxide over your head. Did I say BAD? lol
Yeah, I know it's not great or anything, but I've used it again, for about 3 weeks now (for about 2 times a week) and my hair is looking great. I like the little reddish highlights. But I don't use it everyday and I'm not spraying it a lot. Just 4-5 spritz and I'm done. It looks good. I'm almost back to my natural hair color really.
I used it up until a few years ago and it made my hair a really nice colour. My hairdresser was always disapproving but admitting it looked good - lol. I always condition loads as well, so it didn't make it dry either.
Then I wanted to change colour but my hairdresser told me I needed to grow it all out before using another colour as she's seen sample tests where Sunin-ed hair literally dissolves when exposed to colourants. So I grew it out for about a year and I don't think I'd go back to using it now since it was so much hassle. Pity!
My wife used Sun-in fairly regularly. I remember the nasty smell when she would apply it and use a blow dryer. It worried me that it may be harmful to her. My wife was a non-smoker and a vegetarian since she was 15 years old. She died of lung cancer last year. So, Please be careful about putting chemicals in and on your body. I wouldn't want anyone to go through the hell that we went through.
Sincerely,
gordyramz
Oh my goodness, I used to use that stuff on my already-blonde hair back when I was in high school in the early 80's. LOL! I used it one winter. That following summer I swam a few times in someone's pool, and the dyed parts of my hair turned green.
Editing to say I just saw your post gordyramz, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Awwww......this truly is a "blast from the past", so to speak...lol.
I used it many, many years ago...just to end up with orange streaks in my hair, not to mention the awful, dried out state it left my hair in.
Lesson learned...it just wasn't meant to be used by me.
OMG! I can't believe they still make it! Seriously though, that stuff is SO bad for your hair. I've heard a more natural way to get that sunkissed look it to squeeze lemons and use your fingers to put it through your hair and then sit out in the sun for a bit. Now remember, this is what I SORT of remember LOL
I only use it about 2-3 times during the summer, but only when going outside for a long period of time. But I haven't since last year and really don't care about it anymore. Sorry for the change...
