Lets face it... I am a city person who was sheltered and wears simple cloths but this year I want to make it a purpose to dress masculine.

I bought an oversized dark matte black military style watch and its sick. Instead of wearing tennis shoes I am thinking about wearing boots (whatever style).

Does anyone have any advice for this look?

Don't wear designer shirts or loud colors. Wear a plain OD, gray, navy blue or black pocket t-shirt. Wear a plain black or gray hooded sweatshirt. Carhartt jackets not only keep you much warmer than anything "goochie" will, they don't even remotely look sissy. If you are a hat person, get yourself some hats that go with the rest of this look.....ie NASCAR, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Snap On, Craftsman tools, beer for starters. That's more universal than a even more manly hat. I won't even type it for fear of offending the faint of heart. Don't wear jewelry except one wedding ring and or a sturdy watch. Manly men don't have a freaking thumb ring for crying out loud. Forget about it!!

Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.
I kept going back and forth between is this poster being serious? Sarcastic? Serious? The boots seemed like an ok suggestion... but those hats... are you for real on those hats?

First thing you need to do is stop wearing cloths and start wearing clothes. Cloths are just not masculine enough. Tarzan got away with it, but only because he hung out with monkeys mostly.

Seriously, there are a lot of different definitions of masculine, though.
My mind conjures up this style when I enter "masculine" into my brain's computer:

Dark pants- jeans or dress pants.
A nice, black v-neck sweater with a Tshirt underneath.
Nice, well-cared for shoes.
A chunky watch, a decent wallet, a nice looking, classically styled jacket.

This look would impart a certain manliness in a confident way instead of an "in yer face" kind of way.

Depends on your sex and target audience.

Yeah, drop wearing a unisex potato sack if you want to emphasize masculinity...

If masculinity is what you're after, your best bet is to look to butch lesbians for fashion tips. Back when I was tired of rude people making remarks about my androgynous and effeminate to some appearance (I'm male), I looked to butch lesbians for clothing style. I wore leather jackets, military jackets, flannel & boots (but I'm vegan now, so I no longer wear leather, and now I actually like my androgynous appearance).

A problem is now some of those fashions are even being worn by girly girls, and butch lesbians don't look as masculine to me anymore, so wearing "masculine" things these days can only help so much.
