There's a possibility that his form isn't correct as you're suggesting.

I did 20 yrs in the military and worked with all the branches ( minus Coast Guard) No they do not do pushups everyday. As far as form... yes, most people even guys in legitimately good shape who like to brag about their regemin are mostly big time liars. 100 sit ups at the bar... maybe 25-30 in the gym
Even Herschel Walker who keeps claiming he does 1000, 1500, 2000 pushups "every day" (along with all his other exercises is a physical impossibility based on time available do to do them) has admitted he never goes more than 1/2 way down because that's where shoulder injuries start to happen (smart man!) and never goes all the way up because he wants his muscles and ligaments under constant tension like an isometric.Well that's about the top1/3 of a pushup.
I found that quite an excellent pay to workout to be honest. But let's face it: It would not get him through boot camp! Even I was able to do 1000 pushups a day. My record is 42 minutes. But I never did them every day. Herschell maybe means --On days WHEN HE WORKS OUT--- he does 1000 1/3 of a push-ups
