I know that there is already a thread concerning ongoing events in Ukraine , however it seems to rather all encompassing , whereas this thread will be more limited in scope .
At any rate I'm curious to know about the general state of affairs in parts of Ukraine outside of the current conflict zone . Especially with respect to the issue of political stability . For example are there any rogue people of influence who run parts of the country nominally under the control of Kiev as if it were their own private fiefdom ? Would the government in Kiev be able to assert its authority if ( let's say ) a region of Western Ukraine were to openly not obey its directives ?
Also does the phenomenon of profiting from instability exist in areas of Ukraine outside the conflict zone ? For example would a shady foreign businessman be able to strike up a bargain with local political figures without much fear of interference from the central government ?
