It's not popular at all and I doubt it ever will be.

I like American football more than football, which is rather boring to me as most of the time nothing significant happens. American football is much more action packed, makes for a better entertainment. It's like comparing 100m sprint to some long distance runs (3000m, 5000m etc.), where for the most part it's just 'meh, they're still running...'.

My husband's 15-year-old nephew, born and raised in Germany, joined an American football club in Munich about a year ago. He loves it. He had tried football (soccer) and other sports but nothing interested him like American football does. It may not be a popular sport but there are obviously enough teens who play to have a club.

"Reasons" to immigrate to US:

Christians;
Ford Mustang;
Trump;
Rugby, also called "American football".

Yeah, I'd consider other options for now....

American "Football" should be called "Handball" as 99% of the time the players are using their hands rather than their feet. That is when they are actually playing instead of standing around waiting for the manager to call the next play.

A very strange game where one team's offense is playing the opposing team's defense and visa versa. Some players may actually play only 5 or ten minutes in one game.

It will never be as popular outside the US and Canada as "Soccer", the real "Football" has become in North America.

Isn't that what rugby is, pretty much?

Rugby involves a lot of continous play, and there are two main variations of the game, Rugby Union and Rugby League.

Nope.
It´s an immensely boring sport with a few outbursts of action between commerical breaks and reuns of the previous play.
But I do enjoy watching highlight reels.

I agree and have tried watching it a couple of times. What is it with all the long breaks? It is like watching paint dry. I also hate American sports commentators. They all sound so phony.

An average NFL game: more than 100 commercials and just 11 minutes of play
"The NFL’s popularity is all the more remarkable when you inspect the fare it has to offer each week on television. An average professional football game lasts 3 hours and 12 minutes, but if you tally up the time when the ball is actually in play, the action amounts to a mere 11 minutes."
