I'm one of the rare people in my group of family and friends that like FB. I use it to keep in touch since I live so far away. That said, it's definitely changing. My mom and adult children no longer use FB. I wonder if it's a generational thing causing so many to leave FB? My kids are millenials, they use Instagram and have their profiles set to private. I'm Gen X, most of my friends who use FB are Gen X and Baby Boomers. My mom is from the Silent Generation, she became disenchanted with FB due to all the political posts and rants.

Or even any of the other social media websites that turned into cyber tumbleweeds.

The day will come for Facebook and Instagram, and even Snapchat lately does not seem to be as popular as it was three to four years ago.

I'm just wondering if people finally grow tired of all the Facebooks and Instagramming, will people even bother switching to the next service, if there even is a service?

We all know about how social media can be corrosive, toxic and a breeding ground for narcissism/narcissists or trolls, or even racists and those who espouse hateful or negative opinions.

I'm just wondering how long it can all last, if everything is temporary, particularly the material...

Email has been around for decades now. It's a solid form of communication. I think it will be around for a long time (as will mail).

Online social media services seem to exist so that people can be mined for information and targeted with advertising. I prefer to stay in touch with a phone call or email every now and then. If someone's birthday is important to me I have it memorized or written down in my phonebook/journal/etc.

Email has been declining as texts have taken over.
