Will states go on holding future major elections as we did the 2020 election? With the huge number of ways it would be easy to commit fraud, switch ballots, lost votes, etc.? Should they hold them that way?

Regardless of whether you feel there was fraud in Nov. 2020, it is plain that with present election procedures fraud and theft COULD happen. We must try as hard as possible to eliminate the possibility of fraud, so as to restore people's faith that not only did no fraud happen, but couldn't have happened.

If this latest election showed us anything, it showed us that there are hundreds of vulnerabilities where people of ill intent could certainly have injected fraud with relative ease. Such vulnerability must be reduced or eliminated wherever possible, so that normal Americans can rest assured that theft and fraud of elections is extremely difficult, rather than laughably easy as the Nov. 2020 election showed us.

* Will we continue to use computerized machines connected to the internet, where high school level kids can hack into them?

* Will we still allow weeks and even months to vote, giving fraud purveyors all the time they need to ply their skills?

* Will we continue to accept ballots far beyond election day, enabling "ballot harvesting" and other attempts to gauge how many additional votes they need to win, and go around collecting from people likely to favor their candidates while not collecting from those who don't, many days after election days?

* Will we settle for a "paper ballots" printed out and marked by a machine (still connected to the internet), and simply assume it accurately reflects what the voter actually marked on the screen? Or will the final standard of voting finally become the paper ballot marked by the voter and presented in person on Election Day? It takes a little more manpower, but has the benefit of being a LOT harder for someone to fake, or replace, or change.

*Will we still permit "mail-in ballots" uncontrolled by any chain of custody, sent from any random location, by person(s) of unknown identity, stored in uncontrolled locations ranging from Post Offices to storage rooms to open delivery trucks left unguarded during the postman's lunch or bathroom breaks?

* Should we continue to receive ballots with no chance of identifying who is turning it in? Or require that each voter have a (free, easy to obtain) govt-issued ID? Even such procedures would not be 100% perfect... but would be vastly better than what we've seen recently.

* At the same time, should we keep limited facilities for people who physically can't get to the polls on election day? Infirm people in hospitals or at home? Military Americans overseas or other far-flung areas? People on business trips they could not avoid?

What voting procedures and opportunities should we change for the next major election? And which should we keep?

Just like in previous years and 2020, voting machines should not be connected to the internet.

No. Ballots should be in custody of a government entity (whether local, state or federal) by the end of election day (whatever the end is considered).

Chain of custody should be government entities.

This is a good question.

Given dozens of court cases found no widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election, I'm not sure why we would think anything significant needs to change.

Agree with your statement. The only reason why this topic keeps resurfacing is to set the stage for the next attack on our systems of elections. Realize that the end goal of Trumpism and all of the far-Right ideologies that have coalesced around it - is to destroy our Constitutional Republic and replace it with some form of authoritarian state.

They won't be happy until we are at war and perhaps after millions more die they will come to their senses for a while. It took 600K in the US Civil War, 8 million in WWI and 70 million in WWII. Only question is how many it will take in the next war before our thirst for blood and destruction has been appeased once again. It IS coming, just have a look at the movements all around the world toward Fascism and anarchy.

Why they want to go down this path again is a question for the ages. Human beings have been doing stupid self-destructive things for time immemorial.

Have a system similar to India's. Larger population yet much smoother. And no early voting.

Get a real id/passport to show proof of citizenship, bring your 1040 or whatever tax documents to prove that you pay taxes and you vote in person. Pretty simple. Too dumb for Id or not a net tax payer then you don't deserve a say in where others money is spent.

The Dems "won" so there goes any motivation to make voting legitimate again. The Covid fears which caused mass mail in voting was a perfect storm for them to seize the opportunity to cheat. We all knew it was going to happen and it will happen again because the Republicans are a bunch of weak "also rans" that seem content to come in second as long as they can hold onto their positions.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a more deadly variation of Covid come back in 4 years and out of concern for people's health and to avoid anymore "empty chairs at the kitchen table" that is a Bidenism... we will all be voting online through our phones. What could possibly go wrong (for the Dems) ?

Need to go digital with voting via a app.

The way I would set it up.

1.) Register on your state website or in person at your local elections office. The election officials will send you a letter in the mail. All registrations are checked with the address on file with the DMV & property tax records. If your address isn't up to date then you have to update your drivers license.
2.) Receive the letter in the mail which has a QR code.
3.) Scan QR code which downloads & opens the state voting app.
4.) Vote via the app, you have the ability to request a physical receipt or a pdf.

You will need to re-register every two years.
