It has been going on since Clinton signed NAFTA. Trump is the first candidate to raise issue with specific companies over it. Establishment DNC? Establishment GOP? They don't care.

I am torn between blaming the company or the laws. And where are the unions? Aren’t they the 800lb gorilla in the room, pushing the company around and shutting them down? Where are they?

This isn't about unions.

There are plenty of states that they can move the plant and have workers without unions

It is surprising to me though.

They are manufacturing these cookies and i think most of the production is automated.

So they don't employ like thousands of people.

What is the real deal about moving to Mexico??

I am really curious.

The corporate elites have been on the war path against unions for decades now with huge success and the American worker has largely been left to fend for himself. The lone ranger going up against the well funded army. The results are clear. Longer hours, stagnating wages, disappearing retirement benefits, the end of overtime etc, etc. Only with stronger unions can we get trade deals that benefit the American worker. Not just the wealthy corporate elites in America. But we now have a government controlled by organized money, and that is just as dangerous as a government by organized mob. Get money out of politics, and support public funding of elections and strengthening of unions to bring democracy back to America.

A major factor in the move is federal sugar price controls that have been imposed by the federal government at the behest of the Florida sugar industry. US sugar prices are much higher than in the rest of the world.

How US Sugar Policies Just Helped America Lose 600 Jobs

Quote:
According to a 2006 report from the government’s International Trade Administration: “Chicago, one of the largest U.S. cities for confectionery manufacturing, has lost nearly one-third of its SCP manufacturing jobs over the last 13 years. These losses are attributed, in part, to high U.S. sugar prices.”

But the federal sugar price-support program has come under fire from food-and-beverage companies, which argue their costs are higher because sugar gets more protections than other crops. Lawmakers introduced several bills to overhaul the program in Congress last year, but none passed.

Exactly the kind of corporatism and protectionism that Trump has always practiced and supported. Trump is hoist on his own petard here.

IF Donny really cared about American jobs he never would have been selling clothes made in China under his name, it's just a little too convenient that he allegedly cares now that he's entered the campaign.

Agreed.
So Trump has no problem buying favors from democrats by donating to them because they'll do him favors and make him more money. He has no problem using eminent domain to make more money. But he's mad other companies are doing what they can to make more money. He's a hypocrite and two faced.

Those articles blame free trade. Just what Trump is against.

Huh? From the first link:

If the government wants people making Oreo cookies and similar products to keep their jobs, a logical starting point would be to eliminate the U.S. sugar program, including barriers to imported sugar.

Exactly the opposite of what you say.

Saves money. 600 less expensive employees, far less taxation.
