I've run into a few 20ish west-side Americanized latinas with similar mannerisms & figures of speech - very California valley-girlish.

Yes -- I've heard and seen that -- not just with latinas. I think that's one of the El Paso non-Spanish accents.

Two examples of El Paso accents that I think of would be Teresa Provencio (KLAQ) for the typical English without a Mexican accent and Mando Medina (KLAQ) as typical English with some Mexican accent.

I read somewhere that a great deal of the in-migration into El Paso from elsewhere in the US comes from California, and the Los Angeles area in particular. That might have something to do with it.

I've had two people tell me I have a Missouri accent. I don't even know what a Missouri accent sounds like. But I found it very strange that two people told me I had a Missouri accent in particular. I'm black by the way, if that means anything to anybody lol.

Yea I have tried to shed the accent for professional business purposes. I get some funny looks when I say "Someting" instead of "Something". But when I am in ELP the accent is in full swing and then the "que paso ese" and the "ay guey" and the "a la bravas?" start to come out.

I wasn't born and raised there. I heard a CLEAR accent. There was a marked difference in the way that people from say - Mexico City spoke vs someone from El Paso.

Also, anyone who wasn't Hispanic had a weird, ALMOST Spanish accent.

And then of course, there's the most used word in El Paso - barely.

I haven't lived in El Paso for 12 years. When I go back to visit, many times people have asked me if I'm from Chicago (i guess I now say da instead of the and dis instead of this)...I guess I lost my 'El Paso' accent, but when I'm there, it definitely sounds strange.

Can you provide audio so those of us outside the Q's broadcast area can hear what you're talking about?

Mal', I can detect an accent on Teresa. I listened to three of the podcasts. Maybe those of us not used to it anymore notice. ??
