yes, but I don't think that's an actual center, like a museum or place you can go anytime as that article made it sound like; it's more of an organization that puts on the Fiesta de las Flores.

I suppose the Chamizal National Memorial might be a stand in for such.

That's true, and I posted that reference to point that out.

As for the need for a brick and mortar cultural center, it's my opinion that the historical and cultural mix in El Paso is such that it's impossible to not address the various influences, and the museums that are brick and mortar do a good job of it.

Addressing the subject of this thread, I can't imagine anyone contemplating retirement deciding on El Paso without understanding the demographics and what it means in terms of living in the city full time.

Not trying to bump the thread but I do wonder if there are any efforts lately to make ELP more attractive for retirees. It does seem that El Paso is improving in other ways at least. Are there any 55+ communities planned out there?

I would certainly love to see some (or one) cutting age elder communities. Thinking of starting one -- wish I could.

Nice to think so at least

I take it then that there's nothing like that now

Yeah...me too! I'd love to live in a "cutting age" community. Sure beats the "aging" one I'm in now.

I'm not too familiar with this topic, but I've read that there are a few small luxury retirement complexes that are either planned or being built right now.

The View at Montecillo is already open I think, its a 55 and older complex with 149 apartments in the Montecillo master planned community.

The Legacy at Cimarron, is currently being built at one of El Paso's nicest and newest communities (Cimarron) in the Northwest side of town. It too will be a 55 and older complex with 86 units.

There was a larger planned retirement community planned for the NE side of El Paso, next to Painted Dunes Golf Course but it was canceled a few years ago.

There might be a few more projects out there, but I'm not sure..that's all I know about atm.
