We don't have strip clubs but gogos (clothed). I have friends that work the business and I've done shifts for them in the bar-tending and bouncing side. The business has been hurting since before COVID.... I count like 5 clubs in the area are permanently closed and with that many of the ladies are working in a super competitive environment in the few clubs that remain open. Its not uncommon to have twice the number of dancers than customers which is never good.... customers nor dancers. Some have gone the route of providing online content but for the majority they make little to no money.
As far as I know, the only recession proof business are those around alcohol sales (not bars but retail) and nail salons. Maybe... even housekeeping which many of the gogo dancers are working as their primary job.
From what I hear, OnlyFans is hard work for minimal pay unless the performer is top 5%. But if you can make the top 5%, the floodgates open.
I don't know how the strip clubs in my area are doing.
If, by hard work, you mean breaking a sweat taking off clothing, then I suppose my heart breaks for those women. I'm sure that many women may do it to supplement their income. Heck, if it covers a monthly car note, I would consider that doing well. Porn is filth, but it sells and there will always be simps who part with their money to see naked women online.

They make pocket change from what I hear. Not nearly enough for a car note.
From what I've heard from young women who have tried it, it's harder than that. It's like being an influencer which seems easy but is not. While it's not "hard" work in terms of the physical difficulty, you're always on the clock. In order to build up a fanbase you have to constantly be working at it, making sure you update every day at the same time. So constant, never-ending deadlines, etc...
From knowing a guy who had a podcast that took off for a while, he said it was exhausting trying to keep up with the production schedule expectations of his audience. He couldn't keep it up, and while it brought him money, it wasn't THAT much money. Not enough to quit his day job. But the hours the podcast demanded grew and grew to come close to a 2nd job. His audience's expectations were relentless, and if he didn't perform for them, he'd lose them quickly. Eventually he gave up. I suspect OnlyFans has a similar dynamic, since the business model is similar - build up a base of subscribers and keep them coming back for more.
I'm surprised strip clubs do much business at all considering so many things can be done online with relative safety for both parties.
Yeah I guess still a lot of lonely guys who go to these places for the fantasy, but with the economy and other things going on, why waste money on something more suited for once in a lifetime bachelor party?
Around here strip club quality really went down after the State decided one can't discriminate between men and women dancers.
Ok, I'm making that up. Haven't been to one in a very long time. It does make sense that this would be a highly elastic spend type that gets cut first when times are tougher.
We will know we are in a deep economic downturn when street prostitution becomes common and widespread again.... the way it was in 70s NYC for example. Right now, things aren't even at all bad yet.
