So Tucker is a Bichon/Poo, about 18 years old, no major problems except : LICKING. Google says this is OCD. He licks constantly whenever he is not sleeping. He licks the furniture, the blankets, the sofa pillows and he even licks the wood floors. He licks over and over. He doesn't stop unless I yell at him (he is deaf) and then he goes right back to it again.
All his lab values are good for his age. He doesn't have diabetes or any other disease. If he is so anxious, what about?? He has no interest in toys. He is eating ok. He pees ok too. I don't know what to give him or how to help him if this is anxiety. The vet is useless. Should I pursue a drug to help him calm down or just ignore this? What say you???
When my old dog had some anxiety, not licking but not being able to settle down I gave her doggie CBD. I believe the brand was Releaf, it was recommended by one of our local pet stores. It really helped her relax and get the rest she needed. There are lots of calming supplements out there, Chewy mistakenly sent me some last week, personally I would start with something not to harsh to help calm him rather than a drug that could have bigger side effects.
have his Vet check his teeth. My Maine Coon had an abscess on one of his teeth and licked all the hair off his belly. It was a reflex reaction.
Brat dog licks his feet constantly at night - but its his way to relax and get sleepy. When I notice it, I take him in and put him on the bed with his blanket and he goes to sleep. Even if Goofy Girl and I aren't in there.
