Anyone watching? Tonight is the toy, non-sporting, herding and hound group judging. Winston the Frenchie who took Reserve Best In Show last year won the non-sporting group and just may be the favorite to win it all this year. Buddy Holly, a PBGV, won the hound group. He was born and bred in the UK but now lives in California (hey, kinda like Prince Harry!)
The peke won the toy group. Rummie is bred and handled by David Fritzpatrick, whose name in the dog show world is synonymous with award-winning pekes. And the Australian Shepherd Ribbon won the herding group. Her movement was gorgeous! She floats around the ring. She was my personal favorite of the night.
Tomorrow night is sporting, working and terrier group judging, followed by Best In Show. Each year, I root for the Golden in the sporting group. Each year a prayer sent in vain. Oh well, still exciting to see the selection of the top dog.
It’s on Fox Sports 1, from 7:30 pm to 11 pm. Breed judging also is being live-streamed.
A Rough Collie from very close to me here in WA won the best of Variety and was in the ring for the Herding Group last night. That's pretty exciting for me. I know the breeder and follow her on facebook, she bred a dog that belonged to one of our tenants.
And in the Group, she got called in for the final lineup, so that was fun! Though the Aussie won it.

I know the owner of the smooth dachshund who won the breed. He teaches a conformation dog training class in Newberry. He also is the breeder and the handler.
I was impressed that so many of the breed winners were from Florida. That collie is gorgeous btw!
So Buddy Holly the PBGV wins it all. I was rooting for the Aussie but that judge spent the most time going over Buddy, the English Setter and the Frenchie, and I felt that all 3 of them would be considered for Best In Show. When the judge gave reserve to the peke, I just felt BIS would go to Buddy.
You’ll have to believe I called it before it happened—my husband is my witness!
BTW, the pit bull (American Staffordshire Terrier) represented his breed and the terrier group well. It just goes to show these powerful dogs can be around strange dogs and people if they are well-trained. But like all dogs, they all need to be trained.
Yes, Janice has much to be proud of. She showed her own dog and won, at the highest level. Probably see her showing "The Mission Circuit" At the Berdoo soccer field on Memorial Day weekend. We'll be showing on Thursday, then FastCAT Friday/Sunday & Monday. I'd rather go to the Fallbrook Vintage Car Show @ Bates, but Bates is full of stickers and crud that gets stuck in dog fur. Especially those wearing a show coat.
