Hi..
I will be putting in some sod and know my dogs will love however, their urine will be an issue I have heard. There will still be a small gravel area which they use occasionally for potty and I had thought about a fake fire hydrant to have a horizonal object to aim at.

This being said, has anyone had success with any of the supplements which I see advertized, as long as their not toxic. Are there any more natural treatments besides watering more?

No, I will install fake grass.

Thank you in advance for your info.

Lime works great for odor, but I winder if the issue is "yellow" patches, which requires another approach.

None of my male dogs pee out in the middle of the lawn. They like to pee on trees and fence posts and sometimes the big snow banks.

It is all dog pee that destroys grass...not just males.

Just water frequently/daily, or hose down where you see him go if you catch it. That will dilute the pee and keep it all greener.

Well haven't just yet. This is a new thing for me to have "green" instead of just rock and pavers. I am sure the grass company will advise me as to the beginning additives. Just thought those out there whom have lawns already and doggies...might have some suggestions to minimize the urine. I am hoping pups will still go to old areas in the rock instead of new lovely lawn. I had considered artificial turf until I saw the bad info about chemicals and cost is outrageous. Maybe more than one vertical obstacle to frequent. Thanks..

It's the high nitrogen content that's in urine, that can kill plants/grass. Watering (diluting) this nitrogen can make a wonderful fertilizer tho. The only problem is, it isn't evenly spread. Where you could have dead patches, if watered in, you may have has green patches!

No kidding. My father made me get rid of a female dog way back when I was in my teens because of that very reason. Spots all over the yard. Where I live now there is the same problem. I have two dogs, one male one female. They go in a certain spot all the time which is in an area that isn't large or can be seen from the road.
