My Pensive is allergic to lentils. Discovered by process of elimination. They make her itchy and then she chews her skin until it is red and irritated.
I'm sharing this information because some of the grain free kibbles are using legumes instead of grain, so there might be lentils in some of the commercial dog food
Generally, lentils should be fine for dogs, except that they must be completely and thoroughly cooked before dogs can have them. That is, they should be fine as long as the dog isn't allergic to them.
There are common things that can cause allergies in dogs, so remember to check for lentils in the foods if you are trying to identify the source of allergies.
I should add that Pensive eats beans just fine with no problems. She's only had split peas in very small tastes, and no obvious reaction, but she's barely had any of them so that was not a test.
Definitely an unusual allergy, but it's possible to be allergic to nearly any food. I'm glad you were able to figure out the culprit, so Pensive can now lead an itch-free life!
