We have so many tales (tails) of woe about unwanted dogs. Here is one with a happy outcome, and a hope for a great future for three little dogs:
Over the past three days we've been assisting a dog rescue organization, in a small way, in the rescue of three little stray/dumped, terrified Chihuahuas in the canyon behind our house. We didn't do much, other than keep our two dogs inside, out of our big backyard, so the little dogs wouldn't be spooked away from the rescue traps on the other side of the fence. Our dogs had to put up with just a morning and evening walk. Eventually the last little sweetie was trapped after having survived 3 nights with temperatures near freezing, and prowling coyotes. Even though we wanted to go out with flashlights and help capture the poor little souls, we would really just be in the way and scare them off, so we had to hope for the best, and let the rescue people do their job, and in the end it paid off. She'd circled that rescue trap for two days without daring to go in, but finally she did. We got a chance to say hi to two of the three pups as the rescue people were moving their traps out. Such cuties! They looked a lot like our own Little Guy, a "Jackhuahua" mix! They'll have no problem being adopted from the local Humane Society, all in good time.
But who would dump three little defenseless dogs in coyote territory? That's pure evil. I get upset when I think how easily they could have become a meal . But now they're safe, awaiting evaluations and an adjustment period, and then adoption. Good job, pet rescue organization!

People never cease to amaze me. Thank goodness they were rescued!
I missed this somehow... what a wonderful story! Thank you OP for helping to rescue those sweet innocent little beings. Hope they are doing well. OP I rescued a "Jackhuahua" that was dumped at a dog park in Phoenix about 7 yrs ago. I tried to keep her but she was unhappy with us so I found her a forever home. She is still with the woman who adopted her from me and we keep in touch every so often.
2 days ago I learned of an unwarranted dog shooting (he died) by a man in Southern California several miles from my hometown. I was so outraged that I made several posts on my FB page which I rarely use. I took them down after I calmed down and got some sleep the next day. It is a highly egregious case. I hope the judge throws the full book at him on January 4 (the court date). If the judge deems it a felony case, it's up to 3 yrs and the full $20K fine. If the judge deems it a misdemeanor (no!) it's up to 1 yr in prison and up to $20K fine.
California has some very strict animal cruelty laws, and in addition it is illegal to discharge a firearm in L.A. County so we'll see how it goes. The original reporting generated 500+ responses on Nextdoor. I hope the neighborhood storms the courthouse that day. I would be there if I could. Would that we could catch all of these various cruel perps.
I was hoping the rescue story would make your day! I have requested news about the pups from the rescue organization once they're processed by the Humane Society. If I hear anything, I'll post it here.
Thanks for the "assist!" You did a great job. As much as you down played your involvement, your cooperation was vital to the successful rescue of those little ones.
I've volunteered in Rescue for most of my adult life (I'm 66) and there are so many things I've seen that I have never shared with my loved ones because they would be haunted by stories of cruelty by humans. I have no answer for you as to why someone would dump these defenseless little animals other than to say there are some awful people in the world. Just focus on the good that came out of this and the part you played in it. You did a very good thing
