There are transition pieces designed to cover the actual border betweeb two types of flooring. They are made from wood, or vinyl, or metal.
I'd be a little surprised if you could refinish engineered flooring at all - but this is not something I know much about. However, I have replaced engineered flooring in sections of our house with tile and stone. I redid an entryway area because it got such great exposure to water the engineered flooring was falling apart. I tiled a bathroom - same cause. I've used wood transition pieces, as they have the most pleasant appearance AFAIC.
