Smiling at the Bracco. Lips and ears flying. The Bracco has just been accepted in the AKC for full registration and the very first Bracco AKC champion was made up last weekend. My Bracco isn't so casual. She flies like a rocket. I've owned sight hounds and my Bracco is in the same speed class.
The first Papillon is moving so fast you almost can't see her legs. The Papillons are so light, they can barely get the teeter to go down and that always costs time and they have to wait for it to barely move under their weight. That one made up the time on the weave poles.
The joy on the dog's faces when they do this is a joy to see, They really love the sport.
Attended an agility competition last weekend. Lotsa of action. The dogs really seem to enjoy it.
The biggest difference I see is in the handlers. Octogenarians just can't keep up with their dogs. Septuagenarians and sexagenarians should take a seat too. They're dangerous to the dog, and themselves.
In fact, I'd say nobody over 35 should be in the ring with a dog. And this is only if they're "fit." (And no, round is NOT a shape.)
It's a safety thing, ya know. Anyone with a Morse Fall Scale # of 25 or more, is an elevated risk.
The Bracco was hilarious. It really did look like what the announcer said, that she was sniffing every weave pole. And yes, that first Papillon was AMAZING! And so funny how they have to pause until the teeter finally comes down. Fun to watch.
These dogs really do seem to love it. And they are just so great at it.
I did take to heart a bumper sticker I saw on a car at an agility trial, though: "It's all fun and games until someone winds up in a cone." Funny / Not so funny....
