I've compiled a list of 10 bad things that could happen when your dog roams. Have I missed anything?

1: He might run away.
2: He might get hit by an automobile.
3: He might bite someone and you could be sued.
4: He might get chewed up by a bigger dog.
5: He might chew up a smaller dog and you could be sued.
6: He might get stolen.
7: He might get shot.
8: He might get impounded.
9: He might get injured by a wild animal.
10: He might encounter a skunk, or maybe roll around in a dead animal.

Poisoned, either accidentally or deliberately. Dogs will drink anti-freeze and come summer, there will be puddles of it on the road occasionally.

He or she might produce an unwanted litter of puppies and it is on you if they all have to be killed because there are no homes for them.

# 11 used as a bait in dog fights. Much worse than quick death on the road.

I am horrified at the number of dogs that escape from their homes. I am forever seeing found dogs on my local pages.

Tip: they're not escaping, they're left loose...

It’s pretty amazing how many dogs on FB neighborhood-specific pages are “escape artists”.
“Oh my dog is an escape artist! Even though my fence is in disrepair, I just don’t know he gets out!”
It’s ridiculous.

It seems like we may have a bumper crop of rattlesnakes this year.

Saw 2 today, when I see one every 5 years.

Dogs just have no idea about rattlers.

They can be anywhere, just about.

Be careful, out in the field with your dog, if you're in snake country.

11. He eats something poisonous.
12. He gets stuck by thorns, spines, porcupine quills, broken glass, nails.
13. He eats carrion or a worm-ridden wild animal. A former neighbor’s dog, allowed to roam, did this and ended up so infested by numerous internal parasites that the vet said the cure would kill the dog. It was euthanized to make it a quicker, painless death.
14. It gets slaughtered to use as free “found” meat for someone else’s dogs.

He (dog) kills a cat

Don't chain them, dont' crate them outside, make them family or don't own them.
