I grew up with doxies. My mother bred and sold them and we never had less than 5 permanent ones in our home. They tend to be overweight. I agree with the other posters. Cut the amount of food and cut out treats. My vet told me when my Lab was overweight to add frozen veggies to her food. When we moved to NM she and my husband were overweight and both lost 30 pounds just walking every day. Good luck and stay strong (those eyes can get to you)

Yep. Weather permitting (Mar-Nov) mine walk 2 miles a day.

Diet and exercise. Work the dog and feed it less.

Measure the amount he gets, make sure it's a level 1/4 cup (or whatever is apppropriate) twice a day. You can also add plain canned pumpkin (not spiced) or plain canned string beans (buy the low-sodium ones or rinse them before adding to his food). Mine didnt care for the fresh or steamed ones but they're all different. The st. beans or canned pumpkin will give him a full feeling, is high in fiber and low in calories.

Would also get his thyroid checked as others have posted
