Every couple of months, the forum has a posting competition that lasts two months long. You only qualify if you enter the competition. Watch at the top of the main page for announcements of new competitions. The latest competition (that just finished) is for $5,000. The winner hasn't been announced yet. You can also keep an eye out for contest information via the "about the forum" forum at the very bottom of the main page. You increase your chances of winning via posting informative posts in the city forums, not the non-city related forums like game forums.

I second everything Hopes says here. Plus, reading the contest rules helps define what it is that is being looked for regarding criteria.

BTW, I get the red "$500 winner" tags (congrats!), but what do the blue "Original Poster" ones mean... is that like "honorable mention" (and it just seems to show up when posting in certain forums)?
It's supposed to be on every thread so you can keep track of who the OP is. It's all a little distracting to me at the moment but I guess I'll get used to it. Hopes and Jan your wins were well deserved. Foxy, if we voted ourselves on the forum, I bet you'd win!
yeah i find the red ones a little more distracting than the blue OP ones but its just ebcaus eim not used to seeing the tags, oce im used to it ill probbaly rarely notice
